Ducosim 12 December vs. Imperial guard/ DaemonHunters

Game two: Kill points, spearhead
against: IG & Daemon Hunters (with IG)
score: 6-14 minor loss

The second game was a Killpoint mission with spearhead deployment against a Vendatta heavy combo of Imperial guard and Daemon hunters. This was by far the most frustrating game in the entire tournament. I faced the nemesis of my army, the Vendetta's and Vulture could match my speed and outgunned me completly.

We started with everything in reserve because we knew that we would get hammerd if we we had set-up the whole army. In hind sight it might have been better to do this and hope to get some stuff early on but well that wasn't our plan at the time.

So we reserved everything and they deployed just about everything I believe with only a vendatta in reserve and an assasin.

The begin phase of this game showed us how amazing shooting is from IG when the Belail command squad showed up it was shot down to 3 models (1 of which belail) by the awesome firepower of the skimmers. I got 1 guardain bike squad in the beginning of the game which was whiped out by the assain in one short sweep. netting them the first Kp followed by our first one when my Waveserpent got on and obliterated the assasin.

Mid game showed some more kill points over at our side and thiers. we managed to score some kill point on a transport (I believe a rhino of the Deamon hunter force). they got more Jetbikes and eventually my Fire Dragons and waveserpent after they tried to take out a vendatta which they failed to do ( 3 penatrating melta shots resulted in 1 weapon destroyed and 2 shaken results) in hind sight I forgot to add the +1 for the Ap1 melta so it would ahve been immobilised and stunned but that's my own fault I guess.

The end of the game saw them picking up some more Killpoints while we strugeld to get some ourself. we managed to pick-up a transport and a squad when they tried to plasma the Terminaotrs to death they managed to kill Belail but his squad was stil their with only the assault cannon guy surviving. The seer Council was a big bust this game with the old Psychic hood shutting down Fortune until turn 7 which left them running for cover all moust the entire game but picking up 2 Kill points taking out the squad and transport last turn. we managed to immobilise a vendetta and kill the vulture.

"IEK!!"

This is where I got a kick in the face, they claimed there flying base was glued on so they couldn't set it on the ground (immobilised) so it kept hovering over terrain which would have blocked it's line of sight if set on the table. But they said the rulebook said it if you can't remove the abse you can keep it on the base. So we let it go , and you know what I happend to see when they where playing at the final table, IT WAS ON THE TABLE. I was so pissed of when I saw that and left me with an even worst taste in my mouth.

We had lost our land Speeder/Serpent/ Fire Dragons/ 2 Jetbike squads/ Belail / and the 2 vindicators giving up 8 Kill Points and they lost a vendatta/vulture/ veteran squad and 2 rhino's leaving us with 5 Kill points. Leaving us with a 6-14 loss and a total of 80 battle points up till now.

New additions

Finally got the extra Fire Dragons I ordered. I needed them to get some more Dragons to stay WYSIWYG when I change some stuff. I usually take my Exarch with a normal fusion gun or not at all so I got an extra normal fire dragon made with a flag socket and a new Exarch which will get a fusion gun when I buy an fusion gun autarch for the bit. Unfortunatly while working on the Exarch it broke in half on the waist so glued it together but I hope I can fix it up a bit with some greenstuff because It would be a waste if the model I use the most (normal fusion gun exarch) has a scar on the abodomen. anyways some pictures of the Wip models on their rises.

Ducosim 12 December vs. Space Marines

Game one: Seize ground, 3 objectives, pitched battle
against: Khan SM & Pedro SM
score: 20-0 Massacre
This was a 3 lootcounter game with victory points.

We where playing against a pedro Sternguard army and a Khan biker army. Actually pregame I was pretty impressed by the army it had some decent speed some good shooting and most of all a lot of Space Marines. The game turned into our favour with our opponents rolling 3 1's the first roles giving us the edge and them the first turn. We deployed nothing and his scouts had nothing to shoot at first turn.

Midgame our stuff started coming on and so did theirs but with some great luck we managed to take out 2 Rhino's pretty fast and left them stranded a unit of bikes and Khan and some outflanking rhino marines ended up on the left side Pedro a vindicator and other stuff on the right. Some assualt followed by some epic failing on their cc rolls left me holding a non Powerweapon SM biker unit on the right flank which got mauled by Belail in later turns. The centre was fermly in our grip with the terminaotors and vindicators setting up excelent firelanes. Other Jetbike squad got jumped by the other biker without khan (god knows why he left him out and single on the back of the board. The Jetbikes lost Combat but got away and left the bikes open for a Seer Council counter charge which ended the SM bikes!

End game we managed to pop more Rhino's and left the SM dwindling even more with more VIndicator shots hitting home. I assaulted the straglers on the right flank with the council which was counter charged by Khan but ended up getting routed of the board and with the guardian Jetbikes rallied they made an end run for the left counter. With the terminators on the central two objectives we had all 3 counters and with more then 400 Vp in our favour

Back from Ducosim 12 December

After a long day of gaming followed by a good night of drinking beer and talking about the games I come back bearing some results. After a hard day of gaming me and my partner managed to take a tied 3 place with 2 other teams which was pretty good since I missed 6 points due to basing and painting. (damm it would have paid to be painted ;) ) But It was still a great day of gaming and making top 3 made it my best tournament result to this day!

We had some really nice games and we made loads of pictures, I will update those in future posts when I get them from my team mate. But first a short recap. (Forge world was allowed except super heavies and Flyers)

Game one: Seize ground, 3 objectives, pitched battle
against: Khan SM & Pedro SM
score: 20-0 Massacre

This game became all about bad luck for the space marine players I guess the Warp energy was bent in our favour with some incredible feats of luck for us. In the end they only had some some random stuff and pedro left but without any objectives and 400+ vp in our advantage the Seerwing took the game with a overwhelming massacre. MVP was the Scatterlaser serpent and assault cannon terminators. We managed to pop a lot of Rhino's with the S6 shooting effectively killing their mobility and winning us the game fairly easy.

Game two: Kill points, spearhead
against: IG & Daemon Hunters (with IG)
score: 6-14 minor loss

This was the game where I was pissed there was forge world allowed. I also witnessed the annoyance of the old Psychic hood fortune didn't go off until till turn 7. This list features 3 vendetta's and a Forge World Vulture. we were completely outgunned and even out manoeuvred. The Deamonhunter's brought up a assassin which killed a guardian jetbike unit in a single turn but got killed in return. but after that we just didn't seem to get a brake failing to get kills on the vulture or vendetta's they kept shooting us up from a distance we ended up loosing 5-8 Killpoints

most annoying unit in the game: Vulture with it's 20 Twin linked shots and the Inquisitor with the psychic hood.

Game three: Take and Hold, Dawn of war
Against: Droppod SM, Droppod black templar
score: 10-10 Draw

This was the last and the best game of the tournament. We had some great fun and laughs during the game. opponents where just as laid back and willing to play a good game as we were. Being droppods we choose to reserve everything which turned out to be a good thing since they had the Dreaghnought assault droppods form the imperial armour. They droppod a lot of crap on our objective forcing us to have to clean up a lot of contesting droppods and dreadnoughts and they castled up around their objective. In the end the game went to turn 7 and ended in a perfect draw. Cool game we just kept failing to contest their objective with all the fast stuff getting taken out or stuck in prolonged CC.

All in all a nice tournament lot of very hardcore lists (2 very nasty Daemon lists and IG vulture spam) which dominated top spots but because we had some good games and a lot of pre game points we still managed to get into the top. We shared the third spot with the droppod army and 1 of the daemon players (which won best painted with the Nurgle part of the doubles army).

Stuff for the Future, GET PAINTING! I keep loosing out on painting points which hurts my overall performance I'm a decent player and I think I know how to play with my army but I just keep getting hammered in the end due to usually missing out on about 15 or so points of painting (in the 1700 single player tournaments). I might skip the next one and go to the one after that with a hopefully painted army by then.

Hope you enjoyed this little debriefing hopefully I can get my hands on the pictures soon and Ill try to give you some more detailed reports on the games with some visuals

Cheers CJ

Packing up for a tournament, SeerWing goes to town

With my next tournament this Saturday I decided to pack up my stuff. Which includes my above shown mini army. It's only a 1K per player doubles tournament, half of which is my seer Council. So not a whole lot of models (16 Jetbikes, 6 Infantry and 1 Grav tank).

Also in my bag are the essentials:

Tape Measure Dice & Scatter Die Templates Armylist (x2) Recent FaQ Codex Rulebook Objective & Loot Counters

Always a lot of stuff to drag around to a tournament I currently don't own a army case that can fit all my stuff so I always end up taking a extra bag. How do you solve the mass transportation of your tournament gear?

Further more to get my force completly WYSIWYG I have magnetised the Waveserpent soit also has all the upgrades shown; Spirit stones (Glued on since I always take those), Star Engines & the Energy Shield. Also fully magnetised the turret so it can spin but won't fall off during use .

I love magnets! they save me the hassle of transporting a waveserpent with the energy shield generators attached (never fits) also I hate it when stuff falls of when you are playing (turrents and the likes) So therefor I put in my magnets and get some nice playable stuff.

Tournement Point System:

me and my teammate found out that we can collect about 50/55out of a possible 60 pregame points. With a bit of luck our armylists got their in time which nets us a nice 20 points. We both have a WYSIWYG force another 20. And we will probably get about 10 to 15 points for painting and conversion out of 20 ( I need to paint my army :P ).

So we are all ready at a good start with a possible 60 more points out of battle points we hope we will do well.

Anyways that's it for today, will keep you informed on the Tournament outcome.

The Art of War

Hey people I know it's been a long time since I posted here, but I'm back in business. University is still taking up a lot of my time but I have been getting more games in and I'm happy with how things are going. Been playing some hard armies and learned a lot. Also been trying out my part of a Doubles Tournament list which I will be attending this Saturday.

I'll be playing with a deathwing player and we have some good combanations it seems. Our try out game ended in a win for us, if that ain't a good sign I don't know what is :). anyways on to the lists:

Mine:

Jetbike council (farseer with the usal upgrades, 3x destructor, enchance and Embolden warlocks)

2 x 6 Jetbikes 2 Shurikancannons

1 x 6 Fire dragons
with Waveserpetn (Scatterlasers, spiritstones, starengines)

not that different from my bigger list and a solid army which I know by hart.

I will be supported by:

Belail (claws)

2 x 5 termies (assault cannon, chainfist etc normal max wound allocation build) one of the squads has belails apothecary.

2 vindicators (dozerblades)

and a MM and Heavyflamer landspeeder

also a solid list which seems to agument mine in a good way. So looking forward to the tournament with 10 teams we hope we reach the top 5 at least hopefully top 3. But we will ahve to see how it goes. Some of the Dutch best players are teaming up so it's a tough competition.

On another note I've been reading a great book latly "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. It's a book about the filosofie of warfare as written by Sun Tzu. It's great stuff and a lot of it can be taken into daily life and in warhammer. Especially for all you Saim Hann boys out there it's a great read. It really goes into the art of misdirection through speed and psychology. It's something I think all warhammer players should read all though then the edge wouldn't be on my side of the board anymore I guess ;). Just look it up it's like 10 or 15$.

So hope this gets you guys back into the swing of things.

Cheers CJ

First reports from the Front!

Hello there bloggers,

after another great tournament followed by a night on the town I'm going to give you the first short run down of the tournament. I managed to gather 55 points out of a possible 100 which considering I got 0 points for painting and such. I gathered 25 pregame points and 30 battle points with a Draw against orks in a Annihilation mission with Spearhead deployment. This game was against the ork player that kicked my ass at the previous tournament. So I was more then happy to draw against this very well playing guy. If any of you know fritz and have seen his games might have seen the Swing Wing I was able to put this in to work for the first time only to get my 2 guardian jetbike squads charged by the outflanking Ork Commando's. (In retro speck I'm wondering if they could have made that move seeing as they just came on the board?)after all the dust settled we where tied at 3-3 KP which gave me a 10-10 draw

This game was followed with a Dawn of War with Capture and Control. Which gave me the chance to use my just completed Objective marker, which was a joy to behold on the table. The game was against a friend of mine which I hat yet to battle so it was nice to see him appear on the other side of the table. He played a Sternguard heavy list with kantor and stubbern and scoring guys all over the board. The game was a perfect one for me with only a few glitches in my battle plan But eventually I was able to contest his objective and claim my own after a 7 round game. Giving me a 15-5 major victory

The last game was one that I would like to do over because it got ruined due to some miscommunication. I met another guy I wanted to play which was the guy that drove me to the tournament last time. The game was a seize ground with pitched battle. The guy plays a deathravenwing with both sammuel and belail and scoring bikers and terminators. This was hard fought game I was out gunned and outmaneuvered. He knows his army inside out and even though his luck was crap he eventually claimed victory on turn 5. I was disappointed because it should have been a draw since we where told we only had 15 minutes left while he was making his turn 4 assaults. This led me to make my end game moves on turn 4 but he then said we had enough time to make another turn which I should have refused. as it turned out we did go over time on turn 5 and I got whiped because I had placed everything for a turn 4 end contesting all his objectives now he had 2 turns of combat to destroy my units which he easily did with his Termies. Leaving me with a nasty after taste and a 5-15 loss which should have been a 10-10 draw.

In the End I had collected 30 Battle points and my first ever tournament game win. so not a bad result I guess. I just need to get my models finished for the 15 extra points :). It was a good practice run with my new list that did pretty good considering the amount of Kill points and failing use of my Fire dragons. Thanks for readying I will try to make some more detailed reports tomorrow hopefully I can remember as much as I can :).

Cheers CJ

Ducosim 12 September

Hey fellow bloggers,

Today I'm packing for my 2de ever tournament! it's Ducosim time again! It's a Dutch tournament held 4 times a year. The previous edition was my first Tournament and I had a Blast, Great people (with only exeptions) and nice terrain and funlists. That was 3 months ago so it's time for the next one :). I'm still no where near even completing my modelling so no painting points for me but with a lot of conversions and a checked army list and only slight WYSIWYG problems I should have 20 out of the possible 40 point pregame. Which should be a nice start.

I changed my list from last time and decided to try out the fire Dragons so with some cutting and slicing I fitted them in there. Resulting in the following list:

HQ: 450pts

Farseer: 175
With doom, Fortune, Spirit stones, Runes of warding, Jetbike

5 warlocks: 275
With 3 x Destructor, 1 x Enhance, 1 x Embolden, Jetbikes

ELITE: 248pts

6 Fire Dragons: 123
With Exarch, tankhunter

Wave Serpent: 125
With twinlinked scatterlaser, Spiritstones

TROOPS: 591pts

6 Guardian Jetbikes: 152
With 2 shurikan cannons

6 Guardian Jetbikes: 142
With 1 shurikan cannons

10 Dire Avengers: 152
With Exarch,Bladestorm,Dual catapults

Waveserpent: 145
With twinlinked Brightlance, spirit stones

FAST ATTACK: 180pts

1 Vypers: 60
With Scatterlaser

1 Vypers: 60
With Scatterlaser

1 Vypers: 60
With Scatterlaser

HEAVY SUPPORT: 230pts

Fire Prism: 115

Fire Prism: 115

It's not that different from my last list with basiclly a exchange for the Fireprism upgrades and starcannons for a Serpent with Fire dragons. These are in to finally kill those dammed Landraiders which always give me headaches and with the field also containing some IG and Orks and a 2 tau players their will be plenty of armour to shoot at!

So tomorw I'm off to try and defend the intrests of the Dragon Rider Host

May the Dragon grace you with his Inner Fire

Easter egg hunt!

" Ever since the destruction of the dragons the farseers of the Dragon Rider Host have spend most of their time trying to find a surviver. This would mean a chance to once more gain the Dragons as their Immortal allies. "

Since I needed an objective and I'm still waiting on my paints to arive I decided to make one. this is was I came up with. It's a old dragon's nest with a little surprise: a Lost Dragon Egg. The host will fight fierce to defend this great source of power with their Life!

Dragon Rider Host V 2.0

Hey guys it's been a while since I updated here mainly due to my last period at university and the first week of my vacation (which means working at my dad's road construction company). But now I'm back and I've had a number of games under my belt with the list and I'm looking forward to getting ready for the next tournament which is september 12th.

But in the games I played I found I really needed to get some more AT in my list that would really do the job. now as you know I'm follow the way of Saim Hann since before I started my own army. Fritz has been going down the Singing spear route with his council and getting in some banshees for CC support. I've chosen to go the other way and I'm going to be using my council mainly as a hand to hand element multe charging multiple support units and just keepng them from doing their job. in order to fill the AT gap i've chosen to ditch one of my fire prisms for the fire dragons in a serpent option. this and some other changes have let to the following list:

HQ: 455pts

Farseer: 175

With doom, Fortune, Spirit stones, Runes of warding, Jetbike

5 warlocks: 280

With 4 x Doom, 1 x Enhance, Jetbikes

ELITE: 283pts

6 Fire Dragons: 128

With Exarch,tankhunter,crackshot

Wave Serpent: 155

With twinlinked scatterlaser,Vectored Engines,Spiritstones, pintle mounted shurican cannon.

TROOPS: 621pts

6 Guardian Jetbikes: 152

With 2 shurican cannons

6 Guardian Jetbikes: 152

With 2 shurican cannons

10 Dire Avengers: 152

With Exarch,Bladestorm,Dual catapults

Waveserpent: 165

With twinlinked Brightlance, Vectored Engines, spirit stones

FAST ATTACK: 180pts

1 Vypers: 60

With Scatterlaser

1 Vypers: 60

With Scatterlaser

1 Vypers: 60

With Scatterlaser

HEAVY SUPPORT: 160pts

Fire Prism: 160

With spiritstones, Holofields

Total: 1699pts

So what do you think?

Waveserpent with Spiritstones and Twinlinked Brightlance

Vypers x 2 with starcannons
Vypers x 2 with starcannons

Fire Prism with Holofields and spirit stones
Fire Prism with Holofields

Deployment:
Black templar deploys his 2 Landraiders and Rhino around the building holding his objective. He also deploys his dread nought on the first floor of the same building. Looks like it is going to be hard to take his objective with a guard like that.

I deploy my Seer Council, 2 Fire Prisms and Waveserpent in my corner with as much cover as I can get. The rest goes in reserve. my objective is located all most against the short table edge to make him move as much as possible.

Turn 1 Black templar

His first turn was very uneventful. He moved up his 2 Landraiders closer to me and unloads the 5 man plasma squad in the building with the plasma gunner on the top floor. He then proceeds to the shooting phase trying to get some fire into my front Fire Prism but it glances of everything thanks to the coversave provide by the building. He poped smoke on the landraider furthest away.

Turn 1 Dragon Rider Host

First of I fortuned the council then I made my first mistake I popped out the seer council from behind cover to try and pop the closest landraider with the Spear and the rest of the shooting. The serpent moves to get into range to LoS to shoot at the same landraider. Fire Prisms get ready to combine beams. Entering the shooting phase I managed to only get a weapon destroyed from all the shooting. I opt to take of the twinlinked assaultcannon. Leaving the meltagun on their was a risk but it managed to fail shooting anything the rest of the game. I combat move my seer council back as far as I can.

Turn 2 Black templar

I now meet the horror that is landraider assault range. He turns around his landraider and moves in towards my Seer council and he manages to get unit that was in there into contact with the seer council. He also move up is 2de landraider in order to shoot at my Waveserpent. Which results in a crew shaken result thanks to spirit stones. He then move his rhino around a bit more to get more cover. He also get’s his terminators which manage to drop in right next to my Waveserpent. They run to be less template compact. In the Assault I manage to kill some initiates but he then proceeds to kill my Farseer with his S6 wielding emperors champion. The rest of the combat is a tie with me making about 16 armour saves with my still fortuned warlocks.

Turn 2 Dragon Rider Host

I get the 2 Bikers squads from reserve and place them on the far left and turboboost them for the cover save. I turboboost my serpent away from the terminators getting myself a nice 4+ cover save. The Fire Prism move away a bit to get some shots in at the Landraider but the fail to hurt it. Combat is awful and I loose another 2 warlocks to the huge squad. That reroll vow is really beginning to annoy me. I hold and stay in combat.

Turn 3 Black templar

He moves around his Terminators in order to try to hit one of my Fire Prisms. His other landraider moves back a bit to get within 12” with it’s meltagun (he failed to remember that his 2 d6 where not going to happen against the serpents energy field) his shooting also fails to do anything his dreadnought tries to shoot at my Fire Prism but misses everything. Combat ends in some more losses on both sides killing the last warlocks leaving him with about 7 marines and his champion he uses the consolidate move to spread out.

Turn 3 Dragon Rider Host

Reserves give me my 2 vypers squad and boy do I need them. I move them on moving 8”to get some nice 6’s to hit in CC bonus. The Waveserpent moves in between them and the Landraider. The Fire Prisms move in a bit to get link LoS and get ready to guard my objective. On the far left I turboboost 1 squad and make a 3+ coversave line and I move up the other bikes 12” getting me LoS to the dreadnought. Shooting phase was a lot better I manage to kill 3 Terminators with some good shooting from the vypers. The twinlinked brightlance manages to take of the Melta gun of the 2e Landraider. And the Fire Prisms S6 ap 3 shot manages to take out 4 marines only leaving him with his champ and 3 marines left. The Shurikancannons stun and shake the dreadnought then move behind their 3+ coversave brethren.

Turn 4 Black templar

He moves back his 2de landraider to try and fend of the guardian Jetbikes he moves out with his 2 big squad and then proceeds to poor shooting and assault into the first bike squad which dies like it’s supposed to leaving his squad a long way from his objective. On my side he moves his guys into the landraider and then tries to shoot a Fire Prism with it’s melta failing to hurt it yet again. The terminators assault my vypers but only manage to shake one thanks to the squadron rule.

Turn 4 Dragon Rider Host

I move away my vypers a bit from his terminators getting them ready to boost to his objective turn 5. my Waveserpent holding my dire avenger troops boost back to my objective not making the full distance but setting up for a turn 5 claim. The Fire Prisms move in a bit more to screen the objective from the landraider. I then turboboost the last guardian Jetbikes over his squad and landraider and I claim his objective. The bait is set. Shooting cleans up the last terminators but fails to hurt the landraider.

Turn 5 Black templar

He moves around his landraider a bit more to try and shoot at the Fire Prism guarding my objective. He also moves everything around at the left to shoot and assault the guardian bikes currently parked their. To my horror I find they are within assault range so I hope they die from shooting to keep away his squad of marines. He then pours everything he has at the squad killing them all but also leaving him out of assault range and giving me a clear shot at his objective. His melta raider fails to hurt my Prism.

Turn 5 Dragon Rider Host
I boost in with 1 vyper squad contesting his objective and move the 2de one in to do the same in turn 6 should that come. I move the Fire Prism in front of his landraider and move my serpent on the objective. The Fire Prism prevents him from being able to ram with his landraider keeping my serpent sae for now. Further shooting from the vypers on the dreadnought fails and same goes for the brightlances and Fire Prisms. But I hold my own objective and claim his. Time to roll 1 or 2. My opponent rolls and it’s a 1!!!! Game ends with a Saim Hann victory! We didn’t tally the Victory points but It probably wasn’t enough to keep me from the win. In the end their was little left of my army but the win was in the bag.

Losses Dragon Rider host:

Seer council, 2 guardians Jetbike squads

Losses Black templar:

Half his first unit and his terminators

Lessons learned:
-Black templar are lethal on the assault against my small units due to their rerolls I have to roll insane amounts of saves which in the end kills you.
-Moving 7 “in order to only be hit on 6’s in assault is totally worth it.
-I fail in taking out Landraiders but thanks to speed there is enough room to just ignore them when possible.
-Land raider assault range is very far.
-Jetbikes are nice gunfoder
-Starcannons are still king

Hope you all enjoyed readying the report as much as I enjoyed writing it and playing the battle.

Until next time

Cheers CJ

Army so far!

Hey bloggers just a couple of pictures of my army so far:

Tournament army:

Seer Council:

As you can see still a whole lot of work yet to be done! Not a whole lot more to ad to this then to just take a look and leave any comments or suggestions you might have.
