Warlock WiP

Hey guys,

got my first mage kit is in today which I needed for my warlock conversions. It was a lot of work up to the points I am now and it isn't finished yet. I just wanted to let you all take a look and find out what you think of it so far.

Warlock WiP

As you can see I used a Wood Elf spear I had lying around as a which blade. Now I know a lot of people might be getting offended and go but that's no which blade it's a spear well I'm going to be playing it as a whichblade, I probably mix it up with some sword arms as well just to mix up the look of the unit as a whole.

Comments and Suggestions are more then welcome!

Cheers CJ

  2. NO ron don't do that! The things I do are stupid and way to time consuming but I'm just crazy enough to do it. I still need 4 more of these guys and a Farseer (made with Archmage bits) for my Seer counsil it's just a Insainly costly and Timely endeavor.

I'll probably take longer making my seer counsil then you do making your entire army. And you are a lot better painter aswell!! so for the love of all things holy (40K) don't throw away your awesome models!

  5. Really, really cool. I have a Fantasy army made of both High & Dark Elf models and am working on expanding my Saim-hann Eldar into Dark Eldar in the same manner. I am get really inspired by conversions using "cross-over" models.

Check out my stuff (specifically my Eldar and Elves) and tell me what you think:

  7. well first need to sculpt the hood and his lower body before I can start painting and as this is my pride and joy unit it will wait till I have had a little more practice. But thanks for the complements

  8. CJ, the conversion looks great. I would have never thought of using those bitz like that, great job. One suggestion though, shave or file the stirrups off boots/feet. That is the only little thing I noticed. Again great job.

  10. Nice looking conversion there! I ended up doing a lot of sculpt work to get similar effects (cloak, spear, etc) and wish I'd thought of that kit bash. (Though the plastic mage wasn't out when I was doing my Warlock Council...) That's a really solid conversion.

As a side note, you're going to have issues with that spear counting as a sword at WSIWYG events, if you attend one. Go ahead and run it as a Singing Spear and see what you think. You might be surprised with the results. I tried it out and have since switched all my Warlocks over. It changes them to a shooting role rather than alpha strike. They end up doing as much or more damage, last longer, and are less likely to get bogged down against a tarpit unit. I run Farseer (Guide, Fortune, Spear, etc) and normally 6 Warlocks (5 Destructor, 1 Embolden, all with Spears) and have them go tank and horde hunting.

Cheers and looking forward to following your progress. It's been giving me ideas in return.

  11. well Thanks for the Comments and suggestions Dverning! It's a lot easier then a full sculpt.

I know that WSIWYG is an Issue but I don't have the points nor the desire for a singing spear at the moment since I will probably be running a counsil with a Doom Fortune Farseer and 5 warlocks (3 Destructor, Enchance, Embolden)so they are going to be a bit more CC orientated. But maybe in later games I'll turn to Spears.

The thing with WSIWYG is that there are no Whichblade models like this so I will jsut explain that I use them as blade and if that's an issue I'll just not attend the event. Not planning on attending any GT's or such anytime soon anyways. an If I ever Do i might just change out the weapon or something. But thanks for pointing it out.

Also I would be intrested in seeing some of your counsil if that's possible

    Cheers CJ

There's photos of my JetSeer and the mk1 Warlocks over there. Sadly I don't have any pics of the mk2s. I really should fix that. They're pretty mk1s but based off DA bitz rather than Guardian. The DA Exarch power weapon makes a great Singing Spear. Then I sculpted runes, a longer robe similar to the Farseer, and other little "Warlocky" details like hanging bags and extra spirit stones.

I've actually been thinking about doing a second squad off a "counts as" Harlequin Jetbiker theme. I'm still in the design phase right now, but my wife's already given the okay to steal some of her DE Reaver Jetbikes for it...

  13. Nice going on the Harlequin themed Jetbikes. I believe there is an army that was just sold on ebay that was made with exexlty that theme but using Eldar Jetbikes. I think if you google for harlequin jetbike army you'll probably find it. It's painted in turquise colours.

And your Farseer looks Amazing by the way! it's on of the models that got me motivated to do my own conversion I think I came across it a month or so ago. Lovely work! I don't know if you ahve seen the sketches for my Farseer Jetbike but it's going to be a sculpted Dragon head :) I hope I can att least get somewhat close to your amazing Work!

Thanks for showing the pictures and Good luck on the harlequin Jetbikes

    cheers CJ

    p.s. found the Harly bikes:

  14. Thanks for the linkage. Ah yes, GMM's brilliant army. I was thinking something similar, but using the lighter armour and forward seating style. Something about 30% that, 30% this (http://www.coolminiornot.com/108996) and about 40% going off in my own direction. It's still in the design/sketch phase but I'm really getting into the idea.

I also figure that by doing them with spears I can use them as Shining Spears in a pinch too.

Glad to hear my Seer was an inspiration. He was a lot of work, but it really challenged my to take my sculpt work to the next level. I look forward to seeing what you do with yours. The two biggest things I've learned with sculpting:
    1. Aspire. You'll never get better if you only do small stuff.
    2. Patience. Work in steps building up each level of detail. Get it right and then SET IT DOWN. Come back when that section is cured and do the next.

    Cheers!

  15. What would be awsome (and fitting with the dragon theme) you could (well you can't) use the sea dragon cloaks from the WFB dark elf corsairs, unfortunaley the way the cloaks are skulpted, they wouldn't look right but it's look cool if you could make it work

Great job, I'm still gathering ideas for my seer council and I still have no idea!
